    Friends and colleagues!
As many of you know, PLOS has been working hard to further equity in scholarly publishing by pushing for more inclusive, non-APC based business models. We view this work as critical to furthering open science, of which open access is just one tiny part. (See UNESCO's 2021 Recommendation on Open Science
An equitable OA future means that anyone can engage with scholarly research outputs, where/when they need to -- ideally without high fees. Libraries are critical drivers to taking us to this open access future, but what is the role of libraries in furthering open science
On October 13 (3 CET), PLOS will be exploring this question with two librarians, Dr. Irene Haslinger, Library Director at TU Delft and Dr. Marcel LaFlamme, Open Research Manager at PLOS.
We'll be addressing the question: Should libraries be mere facilitators, or can they do more to ensure an equitable transition to this open future? And what distinctive role can mission-oriented scientific publishers play?
Please join us for this discussion of open science leadership in the Netherlands and how it aligns with thinking differently about publisher/library partnerships.
    WHEN:
    Thursday, 13 October 2022
    9am ET/3pm CET
    Hope to see you there!
