Current trends in patron driven acquisitions for books in science & technology

    ACRL/STS Publisher/Vendor Relations Discussion Group

    Sunday, January 9, 2011, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

San Diego Convention Center (SDCC) Room 28 D

Due to lean acquisitions budgets, is the "just in case" model of collecting print and electronic books being replaced by "on demand" collecting in some of our academic institutions?  Anecdotal information indicates that purchase on demand is more readily accepted in the sciences and business.    How are publishers and book vendors adjusting to patron driven acquisitions in the sciences?    A panel of librarians and publisher and vendor representatives will briefly share their views and experiences followed by a discussion with audience participants.

Panelists:  Michael Levine-Clark (University of Denver); Diane Clark (University of Alberta); Mary Woodley (CSU-Northridge); Syed Hasan (Springer); Matt Barnes (ebrary)
