Gettysburg College's Musselman Library (Gettysburg, PA) invites a librarian with a teaching and outreach orientation to join as the fifth member of its Research and Instruction department. Our library is a dynamic and collegial organization where every staff member makes a difference. We serve an increasingly diverse liberal arts community of 2,500 undergraduate students, including 22% first-generation college students and more than 21% Pell Grant recipients. We recognize that excellence cannot be achieved without diversity, and we seek to recruit and retain a workforce that offers students and colleagues richly varied perspectives and ways of knowing and learning.

The core responsibilities of the Research, Instruction, and Student Success Librarian are information literacy instruction, outreach, and reference services. The successful candidate will design, teach, and assess course-related library instruction in collaboration with faculty members from different disciplines. Instructional duties will also involve individual research appointments with students as well as the development of research guides, tutorials, and other online learning resources.

Beyond formal instruction, the successful candidate will collaborate with campus partners to plan and implement creative outreach initiatives with an emphasis on initiatives designed to support academic success and retention for sophomore students and students from underrepresented populations. This position will also support student success by participating in the hiring, training, and supervision of library interns and student peer research mentors.

The Research, Instruction, and Student Success Librarian will be responsible for coordinating Musselman Library's reference services by managing the research help desk schedule and overseeing the collection of reference data in order to identify and respond to service trends. Like all Gettysburg College librarians, the successful candidate will also staff the research help desk (including one evening per week while classes are in session and four weekend hours per semester) and provide reference support across all disciplines for the Gettysburg College community and members of the general public.
In addition to these core responsibilities, the Research, Instruction, and Student Success Librarian will participate actively in collection development, serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, serve on library committees, and benefit from continuing education. All members of Musselman Library also participate in ongoing developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism, both individually and as related to our work and profession.

Musselman Library is committed to offering this position's core services in multiple modalities in order to provide flexibility in teaching and learning. In accordance with Gettysburg College's Remote and Hybrid Work Policy, librarian positions are eligible for hybrid work arrangements during college breaks and summer months and may schedule limited remote-work days. This librarian reports to the Director of Research and Instruction.

Gettysburg College seeks candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to work effectively with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members. Interest in creating an inclusive campus community, working with underserved populations, and a strong commitment to the liberal arts college experience is expected. The salary is competitive and is complemented with a comprehensive benefits package. Application materials must be received by April 10, 2022. Anticipated start date is on or before August 1, 2022.

Please visit the application page for more details and to apply.
