    Haverford College invites applications for our available full time (at least 37.5 hours per week), exempt, benefit eligible Social Sciences Librarian.

    As a member of a team of librarians, provides full range of instruction, reference, research support, user education, outreach, and collection development services.  Provides expert research, instruction and collection development service for assigned fields in the Social Sciences.  Works with the Digital Scholarship team to provide services to faculty and students in the social sciences.  Leads peer-to-peer student liaison program. Collaborates with colleagues at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore to maintain and improve cooperative relationships among the three colleges' libraries.  Reports to the Lead Research and Instruction Librarian.

    Essential Functions & Primary Responsibilities include:

    Provides a full range of general reference services as well as in depth research assistance in Anthropology, Peace, Justice and Human Rights, Education, and Sociology.  The librarian may also collaborate with other librarians supporting other disciplines when a project includes a social sciences aspect; examples include projects in Environmental Studies and Health Studies.

    Participates in the Library's instruction program through individual research meetings and by developing class presentations, course guides, workshops, displays, etc.

    Develops and manages collections in Anthropology, Education, and Sociology.  Maintains close working relationships with faculty and students in assigned areas.  Works to maintain the effectiveness of the Haverford/Bryn Mawr/Swarthmore approval plan.

    Leads peer-to-peer student liaison program. Supervises a diversity of student colleagues and actively engages in their training.

    Actively participates in a related scholarly discipline.

    Education, Training, & Experience include:

    Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, broad liberal arts background, advanced degree required. An  A.L.A.-accredited master's degree required within three years of hire date.

    Strong and demonstrated commitment to working in and advancing an inclusive environment.

    Demonstrated proficiency in research services and instruction.

     Demonstrated user-oriented approach to library service.

    Broad familiarity with the subject matter and techniques of college research and teaching, especially in the pertinent fields.
