    SustainRT steering committee folks .... By the end of next week June 20 please have added your thoughts, helped tweak this announcement and added where you will send it off too!


     Announcement (so we can cut and paste to promote Chicago related events):


     


    Subject: ALA Sustainability Roundtable



    • We need your ideas! Please join us for the first meeting of ALA's newest roundtable - SustainRT! Learn about current plans and share your expertise and experiences to help define the strategic direction and engagement of this roundtable. Everyone is invited.

    • Join members of SustainRT for an unofficial event at ALA  as we take a stroll along the Chicago RiverWalk on Sunday June 30 meeting up by 2:45pm at the corner of East Upper Wacker Drive / North Michigan Avenue (SEE PHOTO!). We plan to walk about an hour, heading east toward Lake Michigan, then travel south along Lakefront Trail. At East Monroe, walkers can either turn back, keep going,  or turn west back into town toward the Palmer Hilton Hotel. (about 1.5 mile) depending on where you are headed next! Contact Beth (efwilli3@uncg.edu) to RSVP or questions!



     


    The ALA Sustainability Round Table (SustainRT) invites the exchange of ideas and opportunities regarding sustainability in order to move toward a more equitable, healthy and economically viable society. The mission of the organization is to provide resources for the library community to support sustainability through curriculum development; collections; exhibits; events; advocacy, communication, library buildings and space design.


     


    When will we meet up for the riverwalk? possible times/dates:



    • Friday evening? 6 or 7pm?? (too early? people just arrving? exhibits opening?)

    • Sunday 11:45 meet up until 12:45?? (least amount of conflicts in scheduler but short time period)

    • Sunday 2:45 meet up until 4:15??

    • Sunday 6:30 meet up until ???? (least amount of conflicts in scheduler but people might have left ala already)


    Who will send where:



    • SustainRT ala connect site  (post it as an "event" type and public) - ?

    • ULS listserv - Beth

    Hi everyone,

    Good to chat today. I wrote to the owners of the list, John and Leighann, asking them to change the subtitle of the listserv name, and add the description of our group as well.

    I'll post to colldev listserv, wgss, wess, and happy to tweet to #ala2013 about it as well. Thought I'd also tweet about the nice bike path along the lake, the el train, etc as nice alternatives to taking cabs, etc. (The ALA shuttle buses make me crazy, so much waiting when I could be walking or riding. I lived in Chicago for a year and think it is a very easy city to navigate by bike or on foot.)

    Just a quick note, if you are using Twitter, please use the hashtag #ala2013 on all of the SustainRT tweets so it gets on the ALA twitter stream.

    I'll be sure to post in my school's groups, the Advocates for Urban Agriculture list here in Chicago, and share it on FB.

    Okay hardly any of you have yet to comment on this post, help tweak the writeup or say its fine, tell me when is a time and place to meet from my suggestions for the walk, nor added where you will promote!  Please do this asap so we can send out next week.... We are all busy - I'm swamped right now to and will be at ala bigtime - but if we don't move on this soon, there will be no promotion ahead of time via social networks nor a walk at ALA Chicago.

    Thx to those who have made a few comments and additions though!

    Hi All,

    As I mentioned last week I won't be attending ALA this year. Hopefully next year.

    Beth, I think the announcement sounds good as is and hopefully the folks who will be attending can finalize the details about the walk, if they decided to have one.

    Once the announcement is finalized, I will send out to people at UC San Diego who I know will be attending ALA.
