The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    I just wanted to share that the Services to Refugees, Immigrants, and Displaced Persons Sub-Committee (SRIDP) is proud to announce the first-time launch of the https://airtable.com/appNjoTaJfvHmM6fK/pagYh60RJMuoeWKRA/form. Click or tap if you trust this link." target="_blank" rel="noopener">"Incidents Against Immigrants in Libraries" reporting form.


    Modeled in part on the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom's censorship reporting system, our new tool provides a confidential way to document anti-immigrant incidents occurring in libraries, archives, and other information institutions. Reports may involve individuals from any immigrant community, including refugees, international students, undocumented immigrants, people with temporary immigration status, permanent residents, and others.

    We want to emphasize that reporting these incidents is essential to helping the library and information professions better understand, address, and prevent the challenges affecting the immigrant communities we serve in the current moment. Each report contributes to the development of stronger resources, more informed advocacy, and more responsive institutional practices.

    Reports may be submitted anonymously. All information will be kept confidential, and incidents will be reported only in aggregate. The information collected will help the American Library Association and SRIDP identify patterns, assess emerging concerns, and develop resources that support immigrant communities and the institutions that serve them.

    Please share widely with your colleagues! Submit an incident report and support this important new initiative.

    This project is in partnership with ALA's Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services and the LINA Project.
