Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are well and in good health today.  I'm working with a colleague to find a way to justify new library hires.  I am specifically interested in any guidelines that may exist... such as "There should be 1 librarian for every 800 Students", etc.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any published guidelines along these lines? Could be based on program as well as enrollment?

Hi Paul--

Some academic and state run libraries are covered by state education codes, and may have details spelled out about this type of thing.

For example, here in California, the community colleges are covered in state ed code: Title 5 California Code of Regulations § 58724. Tables of Minimum Standards for Libraries and Media Centers. The code cites ALA/ACRL Minimum Standards for Libraries, but with a quick search, I couldn't find the ACRL minimum standards posted for staffing levels of libraries to refer to.
