The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians.

The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.

  • 1.  Selective Censorship within IFRT

    Folks

    We have a matter of selective censorship within IFRT and, by extension, ALA Connect whereas selective denial, selective exposure, and selective options of reply exist within this Round Table. Anything that Deborah Caldwell-Stone posts I cannot answer. Selective posts regarding the C&B or Constitution and Bylaws are things that I cannot respond to despite being a "member" of this round table. My own posts or others, I can answer or post and THIS is evidence of selective censorship.

    Intellectual Freedom is what few people actually know and selective enforcement by the HEAD OF THE OIF is Earth-Shattering nonsense of the first order.

    There is no option for you here, either you are for Intellectual Freedom or you have no idea what it means. Either way, we have a long way to go in order to achieve what we suppose.

    Mr. McFarlane ,

    It may be that this charge of selective censorship is based on a simple misunderstanding of ALA's policy on participation in ALA's online community.  As I understand it, you may be a member of IFRT without joining ALA.  But, unless you are a member of ALA, you cannot post to any of its various online communities.  If you want to participate in (rather than merely read) ongoing conversations, you must join ALA and pay their dues.  This also includes abiding by ALA's Code of Online Conduct.  There can certainly be legitimate disagreement about the application of that Code but that doesn't seem to be the issue here.

    Have you corresponded or talked directly with Deborah?

    From the top of every page in this group (or whatever these things are called here) - It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.

    So, double check that you are, in fact, an IFRT member and then follow up with the org if you are and do not have the ability to reply. I had to get physically added to groups after formally joining through the membership renewal process.
