We would like to invite all public library workers to participate in a survey about your experiences with intellectual freedom issues in your current workplace. This survey is part of a larger research project intended to study how organizational dysfunction relates to the ability of public library workers to uphold intellectual freedom.
While it’s a newer concept being discussed in the library world, internal organizational dysfunction can affect many aspects of library service - this includes the practice of intellectual freedom. While the term “dysfunction” can appear to have negative connotations, it is important to note that most workplaces display some levels of dysfunction. Recognizing the signs and effects of workplace dysfunction is crucial in order to resolve internal issues and move forward as an organization.

We encourage multiple responses from the same library branch or district, and welcome responses from any person who works in a public library (this survey is not limited to those with a “librarian” job title).
