The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians.
The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.

We would like to invite all public library workers to participate in a survey about your experiences with intellectual freedom issues in your current workplace. This survey is part of a larger research project intended to study how organizational dysfunction relates to the ability of public library workers to uphold intellectual freedom. While it’s a newer concept being discussed in the library world, internal organizational dysfunction can affect many aspects of library service - this includes the practice of intellectual freedom. While the term “dysfunction” can appear to have negative connotations, it is important to note that most workplaces display some levels of dysfunction. Recognizing the signs and effects of workplace dysfunction is crucial in order to resolve internal issues and move forward as an organization.
Please submit your response to this survey by May 15. Your responses will be kept confidential, with the option to remain completely anonymous. The survey can be accessed using this link: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/6279703/Intellectual-Freedom-Library-Workplace-Culture
We encourage multiple responses from the same library branch or district, and welcome responses from any person who works in a public library (this survey is not limited to those with a “librarian” job title). We would appreciate if you could help us reach a broader audience by forwarding this email and survey link along to your coworkers and other folks who may be interested.
For any questions or comments, contact Miranda Doran-Myers (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Crystal Schimpf (email@example.com).
Thank you for your participation!
Sincerely,Crystal Schimpf & Miranda Doran-Myers
