It is with no small measure of sadness that we announce that Ellie Diaz, OIF's Program Officer extraordinaire, will be leaving ALA full-time employment to begin new adventures.  Her last day as a full-time employee will be July 14.

Five years ago Ellie left her internship at the Public Programs Office to become the staff liaison to the Intellectual Freedom Committee, coordinator of ALA's Banned Book Week, and social media maven who soon took over as the managing editor of the Journal of Intellectual Freedom and Privacy.  A stellar writer, journalist, organizer, copy-editor, and lover of Chipotle, she's been an integral member of the OIF team whose talents, dedication, and ideas have contributed to the success of the office and the member groups she supports so well.

Ellie is a wonderful colleague, a dear friend, and a passionate supporter of ALA's members and mission.  We take some small measure of comfort that she will be working on a few small projects for Banned Books Week 2021, but we will miss her and Alice, her faithful chihuahua.  We celebrate her achievements here at ALA and look forward to hearing about her future successes.

Ellie, all our best wishes go with you as you start your new adventure.

Ellie fixed more of my mistakes than I ever knew I made .   I have  considered her a friend.  This leaves a hole in my heart.

No! No! No! I cannot go on without Ellie, OK I can but it will not be easy. She saved me more times than I care to estimate and put me on the path to numerous solutions. Always a smile and a friendly word to start Zoom meetings. She is priceless and will not be easily replaced. Good luck to her!
