You are invited to attend the Intellectual Freedom Round Table Chair's Program at ALA Annual Conference, titled Problematic Titles and You: Inclusive Collections, Hot Topics, and Intellectual Freedom. We will have three expert panelists discussing how you can address problematic titles in your own library using diversity audits and other tools. Our three panelists include:
Kelsey Bogan is a School Library Media Specialist at Great Valley High School in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. She is passionate about building representational collections, media literacy, and teaching librarians how to leverage the advocacy power of social media.
Crystal Chen is a Young Adult Librarian at The New York Public Library. She was a 2018 American Library Association Emerging Leader and has served on YALSA's Great Graphic Novels for Teens Committee (2019-2021) and Pop Culture Classroom's Excellence in Graphic Literature Award Jury (2020). She is an active member of the Chinese American Librarians Association and a Community Admin for We Here (wehere.space).
Caryl Ward has served as Binghamton University Libraries' Head of Acquisitions as well as subject librarian for Romance Languages, Comparative Literature, and Latin American and Caribbean Area Studies. Recently she was named Director of Collections Strategies and Acquisitions. As part of her expanded role, she is chairing the Libraries' Anti-Racism Collections Audit subcommittee. Caryl's library experience and interests include vendor relations, e-book and streaming video access, library management and problem solving.
The live program will take place virtually on Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM CT. Please add this program to your conference schedule. Hope to see you there!
