The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians.

The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.

    Hello all!

    The IFRT Membership Promotion Committee is excited to launch a new IFRT Mentor/Mentee Program! All you have to do to get involved as either as a mentor or mentee is fill out the interest form! Below are the guidelines for the mentorship program. Any additional questions or feedback? Email mdettmann@norman.k12.ok.us.

    Guidelines for Mentors:

    • When matched with a mentee, make initial contact via email welcoming mentee to IFRT
    • Communicate intentionally at least once a month with mentees, via established communication methods agreed on by mentor/mentee. This can include, but is not limited to: email, chat, social media following, texting or calling, virtual meeting, in-person meeting at conferences, etc.
    • Answer any questions mentee asks you and respond in a timely manner
    • If at any point mentor is unable to fulfill mentorship role, then they must contact the Membership Promotion Committee immediately (no hard feelings! But please don’t ghost on your mentee)

    Guidelines for Mentees:

    • When matched with a mentor they will make the initial contact via email welcoming you
    • Reach out to your mentor via the established communication methods agreed upon by mentor/mentee. Mentor will reach out at least once a month.
    • Make use of their mentor by asking questions, reaching out, being engaged etc.
    • Answer correspondence from mentor in a timely manner
    • If at any point a mentee is unable to fulfill the mentee role, then they must contact the Membership Promotion Committee immediately (no hard feelings! But please don’t ghost on your mentor).
