https://bit.ly/GameRT-MMORPGs2021In Introduction to MMORPGs for Librarians 101, librarians will learn the basics of Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing games (MMORPGs) in Lord of the Rings Online so that they feel comfortable setting up online in-game programming for their customers. While MMORPGs aren’t all the same, the basics you will learn in this three-week in-game series will be helpful with any MMORPG you choose to use for library programming. You’ll also learn the basics of setting up a Discord channel for your library and how to use it for programming purposes outside of MMORPGs. Registration for this series is required and is open to all library staff worldwide. The course will be taught in English, though we do have members from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries who may be able to assist participants on occasion. Participants must agree to the hosting kinship’s Code of Conduct, which can be read at https://www.eaglesofthorondor.com/about/code-of-conduct/.
Lord of the Rings Online is based on the classic fantasy novels by J. R. R. Tolkien. Downloading the game, creating an account, and the first 20 levels of content are free; however, additional quest packs can be purchased or earned through accumulating LoTRO points by completing in-game deeds.
Whether you’ve never played an MMORPG or it’s been a very long time since you’ve played one, I hope you will join me for three weeks of fun (…and learning, of course)! To see if your computer meets the system requirements for running the game, please visit: https://help.standingstonegames.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002036807-What-are-the-system-requirements-for-LOTRO-.
