Dear ALA Councilors,

On behalf of the ALA Council's Committee on Committees (COC), chaired by President-elect Sam Helmick, we are seeking self-nominations for the position of ALA Executive Board Member to serve the 2025-2028 board term.

The committee will seek a total of Eight (8) Councilor candidates to run for the following four (4) positions on the ALA Executive Board, per ALA Bylaws (Article V, Section 1):

1.      Two (2) At-large ALA Members

2.      Two (2) Round Table Members

3.      Two (2) Chapter Members

4.      Two (2) American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Members

Eligibility

1.      Must be active ALA members; and

2.      Must be current Councilors and, as appropriate, current members of the division, round table, chapter, or association of the specific ballot position for which they are nominated.

Open House Webinar

New this year! There will be a virtual open house webinar to provide Councilors an opportunity to learn more about the Executive Board member's role and responsibilities. Please register for the webinar to be held on November 19, 2024 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm CT. The Open House will be recorded and posted to Connect for Councilors unable to attend live.

Process and Timeline

Final candidates will be selected by the Committee on Committees (COC) and announced prior to the Library Learning Experience (LibLearnX) in January 2025. If not selected by the COC, candidates may be nominated from the Council floor during LibLearnX. 

This election will take place electronically in January 2025. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for each position will be elected to a 3-year term (2025-2028). Newly elected Executive Board members will begin their term at the conclusion of the 2025 Annual Conference in Philadelphia.

Candidates will participate in ALA Executive Board Candidates Forum to be held in a hybrid format at LibLearnX on Sunday, January 26 @ 2-3 pm Mountain Time.
