    Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to ask all ALA Councilors to take a moment to join Unite Against Book Bans as individuals.  Unite Against Book Bans is  a national initiative to empower readers everywhere to stand together in the fight against censorship.  If you believe:

    • Books are tools for understanding complex issues.
    • Young people deserve to see themselves reflected in a library's books.
    • Parents should not be making decisions for other parents' children.
    • Individuals should be trusted to make their own decisions about what to read.
    • Limiting young people's access to books does not protect them from life's complex and challenging issues.
And if you adhere to  core values of our profession, including:   Access, Democracy, Diversity, Education and Life Long Learning, Intellectual Freedom, Preservation, Service, and Social Responsibility, Sustainability

Please sign on as individuals: Unite Against Book Bans

If you are a State Chapter Councilor and your chapter has not already signed on as a partner, please join the 10 partner chapters: Unite Against Book Bans: Become a Partner

If you work in a school, academic, special or public library - consider having your library join as a partner: Unite Against Book Bans: Become a Partner

    The requirements for partners:

Partners to this statement agree to uphold the principles of the campaign, provide their name for the campaign website and materials, promote the campaign to their constituencies, share information of importance with the campaign coordinators and to their constituencies, and participate in occasional convening of campaign partners.

There is no financial commitment to sign on as an individual or partner.
There is strength in numbers - please sign on today.

    Questions?  Please ask.
    Thank you,
    Sara D.
