  • 1.  information on an organization - Our Story Bridge

    Posted 22 days ago
    Hello,

I am looking to start collecting oral histories from long-time residents of my village. I have been in contact with an organization - Our Story Bridge. They help collect, organize and promote oral histories. Has anyone worked with them? or have any information about them?

I know this can be a time-consuming process especially for a small library. If anyone has tips or suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello,

Taking a look at the site, the organization is geared towards providing rather elementary, beginner-level guides to collecting stories. I do not get  any sense their technical parameters  and requirements for recording interviews are other than basic, and neither do they say anything about  sustaining and preserving the materials in an archival repository. But, it may well be the case that such  a basic approach is all you require for your project,

    Regards,

A colleague of mine at a previous library I worked at may have heard of this organization - can't hurt to ask!

We tried to launch a project but were unable to get it off the ground due to unexpected staff changes stretching us a little too thin to commit the way we needed. However, if you have sufficient staff or volunteer time and the needed startup funds I would highly recommend it. The founder, Jery Huntley, is very helpful and has a warm and encouraging vibe so I would recommend reaching out to her to see if it would work for your library.
