American Libraries Magazine in Print?

    Hello everyone,

I am an MLS student at Simmons University and a new member to ALA! I first joined in May on advice of my professor and when I joined, received the June print copy of American Libraries published by ALA in the mail. I thought the ALA membership came with a print subscription to American Libraries but I have not received a print copy since June. Would anyone happen to know if the ALA membership includes a subscription to American Libraries or is there a separate subscription?

Thank you in advance! Please let me know if there's a better place to ask this question.

    Best,

The print magazine IS a membership perk. Their website says this: "American Libraries publishes 6 times a year in print, plus a digital-only July/August issue and occasional digital supplements." I also received June as the last print edition and can't recall if I got the digital summer issue.

    Hi Alessandra,

Your ALA membership includes a subscription to American Libraries, so it should be coming to you regularly. However (as I found out just now by looking at https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/subscriptions/) , the July/August issue is digital only. If you don't receive an issue for September/October, the website above has contact information so you can let the magazine's staff know.

    Best regards,

    Margaret Nicholsa

I also just found out that the July/August issue is digital only. Don't recall seeing a notification when the issue came out. I don't know how many years ago it became digital only.

I don't remember seeing an email that the July issue was digital only.  I hope American Libraries stays in print. Amy

Good morning, and thanks for the great discussion. The July/August issue has been digital only since 2013, and the email announcing its publication online should have arrived in your inbox on July 20 (and in AL Direct on July 21). We'll look at ways to improve this communication in the future. Thanks again!

When you say "inbox" - do you mean Connect inbox, or email inbox?
I usually read in my email and rarely go to website.

I received September/October issue last month. Probably best to call or email ALA directly

Hi, Alessandra. Thanks for becoming an ALA member, and apologies that you never received the Sept/Oct issue of American Libraries! (The July/August digital-only issue can be found on our website: https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/magazine/issues/july-august-2022. There's also a flip-book version if that's preferred.)

We'll mail you a copy of the Sept/Oct issue very soon, and you should receive the Nov/Dec issue at the end of this month or the beginning of November. Please feel free to reach out directly if you have questions.

    Many thanks!
    Sanhita

Wow, thank you all so much! That makes sense about the July/August issue; I must have just missed it in my email inbox. Thank you so much, Sanhita, for the link to the July/August issue. I'll keep on the lookout for the September/October issue in the mail.  Thank you all for responding so promptly!

    Best,

    Alessandra
