The Chief Collection Development Officers of Large Research Libraries Interest Group (CCDO) will hold its annual open meeting on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 2-3:30pm Eastern / 1-2:30pm Central / noon-1:30pm Mountain / 11am-12:30-pm Pacific. This will be a Zoom-only (webinar-style) public event. Our theme is the institutional costs of the Open Access transition.

Libraries advocate for open science and open scholarship in the public interest and for global information equity. But open access to research has costs that are largely borne by the institutions where research is produced, particularly the research-intensive institutions like those represented – in North America – on CCDO. How are our libraries covering the costs associated with gold OA publishing models? How are collection development policies and principles guiding investment in OA? How are research libraries and the institutions in which they are embedded preparing for the potential cost implications of the August 2022 memorandum from the US White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)?
