Panel discussion : Welcome to LAC/ Bienvenue à BAC – A new bilingual NACO partner
In 2018, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) replaced its ILS with OCLC's WorldShare Management System (WMS). As a part of the transition, LAC split its single, bilingual authority file Canadiana Authorities into separate English and French language files and joined NACO in order to manage its English-language authority records. This panel will discuss this national library's history of bilingual cataloguing, the reason for the changes, and the attempt to ensure that the two files "talk" to each other. NACO libraries will be interested to learn what unique information they may see in these records from LAC.

A history of bilingual cataloging at LAC continues
Over the last forty years Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has developed bilingual cataloguing policies, allowing Canadians to access publications in both Official Languages. Our bilingual approach has extended to how we created and managed authority records in the national authority file, Canadiana Authorities. Adopting OCLC's WorldShare Management System as our new ILS has challenged this us to adjust our approach in how we manage the work of creating and maintaining authority records.

Transition to NACO: Managing English and French files at LAC
In addition to contributing records to the NACO Authority file (NAF), LAC now maintains and manages a separate French-Language authority file, Canadiana Name Authorities in French (Canadiana), that was created by migrating its former French and language-neutral records into WMS Record Manager. An internal copy of LAC's former Canadiana authority file has been preserved for reference purposes when cataloguers create NACO records. This talk will report on the background analysis done by LAC prior to becoming a NACO member. In addition, it will describe the data elements unique to NAF, and the use of 7XX fields with subfield 0 to link NAF and Canadiana.

Parlez-Vous NACO?: Authority Training at LAC
This presentation will highlight the process through which LAC cataloguers, a bilingual staff, have become NACO participants. Along the way, you will learn about forty-seven trainees, twenty-one reviewers, thirteen cataloguers from eleven academic Quebec libraries, seven NACO funnels, and three week-long training sessions, including one in French!

A national library joins the NACO Program!: LAC and NACO documentation
Library and Archives Canada's (LAC) size and its status as a national library are exciting aspects of the library's NACO membership. New NACO documentation was created to address LAC's national library status, and existing NACO documentation was edited to include the unique MARC data elements that LAC would be supplying in its NACO contributions. This part of the presentation will discuss that new and updated NACO documentation
