The Library of Congress Preservation Directorate is excited to present a new Topics in Preservation Series (TOPS) webinar on the first US Capitol photographer. In May of 1856, John Wood became the first federal government photographer.  Hired to document the construction of the Capitol extension and dome, Wood captured this iconic structure as well as two presidential inaugurations, those of James Buchanan (1857) and Abraham Lincoln (1861).  This lecture will explore the work of this virtually unknown early American artist, highlighting his time at the Capitol and his brief assignment to General McClellan during the Civil War.

The lecture will take place on January 13, 2021, at 11 am (EST). You can register for the event HERE. Pre-registration is recommended.

Please request ADA accommodations 5 days in advance at (202) 707-6362 or ADA@loc.gov
