    CORE Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services Interest Group (RPLTS) invites speakers to present as part of the CORE Virtual Interest Group Week. The PLTS session will take place virtually on Wednesday March 9, 2022, from 2-3 Central / 3-4 Eastern.

    Housed within the Core division of ALA, the Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services Interest Group (RPLTS) was created to provide a forum to discuss common issues surrounding the role of professional librarians in technical services and professional activities such as training, project management, research, assessment, supervision, or hiring in the technical services area of academic research libraries.

    We encourage and seek out participation from anyone with an interest in topics surrounding role of professional librarians in technical services. You do not need to be a member of ALA/Core to present or attend.

    We look forward to providing an engaging session with 2-3 short presentations (20 minutes maximum) offered in tight succession + a brief Q&A session to follow! We welcome your presentation proposals by Monday, January 31, 2022 with selection communicated by Monday, February 7, 2022. We will be available to assist speakers with any technical concerns.

    We are seeking proposals about training in technical services. The potential topics can include, but are not limited to
    • Use of core competencies in training in technical services;
    • Retraining for different skills during pandemic and beyond
    • Virtual technical services training
    • Cross-training between different technical services units and between technical services and other departments

    Proposals should include:
    • Presentation title
    • Short presentation summary (less than 150 words)
    • Name, title, affiliation, and email address for all presenters
