    Hello,

I joined the group because it matches what I do. I am and have been a project manager for a long time. I'm not really sure what I hoped to gain from joining. I suppose finding like-minded folks who do similar work. Possibly a place to discuss challenges with our typical tasks, such as, if you work on an agile/scrum team, how do you organize your planning meetings? Also, networking is always a benefit of groups like this.

I manage projects as the e-resources librarian, usually fairly small projects. I like doing this instead of managing people, though I bring people into a project. I'm here mostly out of curiosity, but also for inspiration and education.  I do not see myself becoming a credentialed project manager currently.

    Hello,

Thanks for the other thread about the upcoming meeting July 29.

I joined because I have only cursory knowledge of Project Management.  I have stopped and started with trying to study in a more formalized manner several times.

In our Library -- which I understand is typical -- we have people who are knowledgeable about project management, others like myself who keep meaning to get up to speed, and then others who, despite having nothing but projects all around us, still think PM is some IT thing that nobody else needs to worry about.  Often these people think PM is a set of tools, and when they find the tools overwhelming or confusing, disregard all PM.

In my case, I want to both learn more, stay motivated and build a set of skills and tools to better manage project.  In my case, by "tools," I mean not only things like Trello boards or Jira or the like, but also a solid methodology for knowing "This is a project, and here is how I can map it out in a deliberate way, as much as possible."

Last, but not least, if anyone is attuned to PMI and PMBOK, I know they are updating both the PMBOK and the Exam.  For a an "amateur enthusiast" like me, it is a bit daunting because I don't know enough to really understand if these are significant changes, or more of a content organizational change.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

The update to the PMBOK and the PMP test was rather significant. It switched to include a lot more agile. When I decided to go for my PMP, I tried to do a self motivating course on Udemy to teach me, but I didn't realize what was important and what wasn't. Spoiler: all of it is important for the test. I eventually took a Bookcamp course virtually, but live, and that was critical for me to pass. I highly recommend doing it if you want to take the test. PMI also changed the application immensely! This is good! It went from a 30 page application to a 4 page. However, if you aren't interested in getting your PMP certification but just want to know more about project management, I think there are more practical ways to do so.
