Greetings -
Here's an update regarding the work of our committee. My understanding is that two of our main responsibilities are to serve as liaisons to Interest Groups (IGs) and to review information about IGs when they come up for renewal. Michael passed along to me that we have only one group coming up for renewal this year, the Collection Development Librarians of Academic Libraries IG, and I'll send out information about that when I have it (it won't be for a while).
As for the liaison role, there's a document on our ALA Connect Committee site called Responsibilities of CMS Liaisons to Interest Groups that outlines liaison responsibilities (we may want to look at updating this document this year). The Responsibilities document indicates that IG reports should come to the Chair of our committee (me at the moment), so this is a reminder to current liaisons to send updates to me about the IG with which you liaise. I know that ALCTS also asks for IG reports (see the How to Report on Your Event page, which has a link to the IG reporting form as well as word documents). If IG chairs want to send the same report to the liaison that they submitted to ALCTS, that makes sense to me. We can also look into whether two reports are needed, but for now, it looks as though they are.
About the liaison role – I just updated the Schedule of CMS Interest Group Renewals and Liaisons 2019-20 (document on ALA Connect) which lists the IGs and the liaisons from our committee. Due to committee membership changes it looks as though we need volunteers from our committee to serve as liaison to each of the following:
- Collection Development Librarians of Academic Libraries IG (liaison activities will include being involved in the renewal process since this group will be up for renewal)
- Collection Evaluation and Assessment IG
Is anyone willing to be a liaison to either of these?
Please chime in with questions or suggestions related to the work of the committee. You are welcome to share them with the committee or send them directly to me (email: nacoop01@syr.edu).
Michael – as outgoing chair, please also feel free to chime in with any additional comments or thoughts.
One more request - could everyone please reply to confirm you received this? Replies can be via Connect or directly to me.
Thanks very much to all,
Tasha
