Hi Michael,
I support renewal for all three groups. I doubt we could stop the collection development Big Heads if we tried! And I think 'Issues for the Practitioner' is great for the exchange of ideas and information at a more practical (and less lofty) level than happens in Big Heads.
But I want to make a special pitch for the public libraries interest group. I attended this group a few years ago during my first tour of duty on our committee; if I remember correctly the committee member assigned to monitor that interest group could not attend, and I volunteered. It was quite a revelation to listen to their lively discussion on a number of topics. I walked away with the sure knowledge that I could not do their jobs, despite many years of experience as a chief collection development officer in academic libraries. The business of collection development/management is very different for public libraries, and I think it would be a shame to lose this interest group.
I will not be attending ALA this time, and I am completing my term on this committee. Best wishes to all of you!
Jan

Hi All,
If you have not sent me comments on the IG renewals, please do so.
Our meeting at Annual is usually scheduled for early Sunday morning during the CMS all-committees meeting. Since the executive committee also meets at that time, our committee usually meets on the early side of the time slot. Once I have confirmation on the location and time, I will let you all know. If you are not planning to attend, please just let me know if there is anything you would like us to address at the meeting (we can also just discuss it here before the conference).

Hi Sara,
There are no specific guidelines, but we're reviewing whether the IG is active, hosts appropriate programming/discussions, doesn't suffer from lack of membership or extremely low attendance at meetings, etc. For example, a couple of years ago, an IG submitted a petition that made clear there were difficulties with chair succession and raising interest in service in the IG. So we communicated to the board that the IG should be reviewed more frequently for a while. Does that help?
Best,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I looked over the forms, and everything looks good to me! Is there anything in particular we should be keeping an eye out for?
Best,
Sara

Hi All,
We have now received all three of our petitions for renewal from the interest groups up for review this year. I have uploaded their completed forms to this community's library, in a subfolder entitled "2019 IG Renewal." It is now our task to review the petitions, and to provide recommendations which I will present to the CMS executive committee at annual.
Please let me know your thoughts, when you have a chance. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.
Thanks!
