We have changed the Zoom session to require registration, so we'll know who is attending.  Interested participants need to submit their name and email address on the registration page so they can receive the Zoom link via email.

    Welcome (5 mins)

    Beth Doyle, Chair

    Sabrena Johnson, Co-Chair

    Announcements (10 mins)

    • The new PAIG chairs will be:
      • Miriam Nelson, Chair (2021-2022)
      • Mark Calhoun, Co-Chair (2021-2022; Chair 2022-2023)
    • Other announcements? Please put in chat so we can record and share

Farewell library buckram, hello Summit? (25 mins)

Many of us heard from our library binders that due to availability, library buckram is being replaced due to availability. Some binderies are switching to Neehah's Summit cloth. What do we know about this cloth? How will it perform and will it meet our needs?

A discussion will be lead by Jack Neves, Binding Manager at UC San Diego. Jack is part of a Bindings Materials subcommittee for the University of California Libraries that is looking into C-cloth and F-grade buckram and possible replacements. Because time is tight, this is likely just the beginning of a larger conversation.

    CORE transition (15 mins)

At our Midwinter meeting a few aspects of ALCTS PARS seems to be missing from CORE. Are these groups/initiatives things that people want to see continue? If so, who wants to or should spearhead that conversation with CORE? What current IG groups might take over their management?

    • Preservation Awards (including Jan Merrill Oldham, Banks-Harris, Cunha-Swartzburg)
    • Preservation In Action
    • Preservation statistics
    • Working groups (Standards and Practices, Publications, Outreach)-Where did these land?
    • PARS Forum (has this been folded into CORE Forum?)
    • Job postings no longer accepted on the Connect page-where will we post these so we all see and can share?

Thank you, Beth and Sabrena. I'm looking forward to the meeting. In case helpful, I wanted to share the information I have so far about starting up in Core.

There is a leadership group for the Metadata and Collections Section that was started by Chris Cronin. It is made up of the incoming chairs from the former sections of ALCTS. I am in the group with L. Angie Ohler (Chair), Steve Kelley, Erika Ripley and Amber Billey.

We have been charged with making appointments for committees, and next reaching out to IGs. This includes reaching out to Preservation Outreach (which includes Preservation in Action and Preservation Week) and Preservation Standards and Practices (which includes Preservation Statistics) and making sure these committees have the members needed to continue their work.

We have a survey out and are interested in your input about holding elections for section leaders, M&C Section Election Poll.

There is a Metadata and Collections page to highlight important work and documents within the section, and this may be of interest as a potential place to highlight preservation work, https://connect.ala.org/core/communities/all-core-groups/core-sections/core-section-metadata-collections.

I don't have information about the awards. There is a coordination committee looking at the awards, https://www.ala.org/core/member-center/committees/awards-and-scholarships-coordination-committee. I think it would be good to look into this more.

If there is anything you would like me to bring forward to the M&C Leadership group or to Core, feel free to contact me (mhoran@miami.edu). Information about the new Core structure can be found here, https://www.ala.org/core/member-center/sections.

Thank you, and see you soon.

    Best,

    Martha

    Hello all,

Attached are our notes from our session last week. Thanks to Tom Ferren from Core in his help getting the recording online. You can download the session here:

Sabrena and I thank you all for attending. We had at one point 32 people on the Zoom. A great turnout for PAIG. Thank you to all our speakers. We also want to give a big thank you to Core for allowing interest groups to have a free session at Annual to host a discussion.

BTW, the link to the PAIG recording in these notes is incorrect. We are working to find the correct link, if it exists. Sorry for the inconvenience.
