The Cataloging Norms Interest Group (CNIG) of Core seeks facilitators for virtual roundtable discussions for its session on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 10am-11am Central time / 11am-Noon Eastern at the 2021 Virtual ALA Annual Conference
Housed within the Core division of ALA, the Cataloging Norms Interest Group (CNIG) offers a forum for the exploration, communication, and exchange of ideas on the dynamics and evolution of cataloging/metadata norms and workflows. We encourage and seek out participation from anyone with an interest in cataloging – from public, academic, school or special libraries – regardless of experience level or training.
Roundtable discussions are small, informal group discussions intended to give participants the opportunity to network, discuss best practices, and share information. Discussion facilitators are responsible for identifying and developing a topic, creating discussion questions, and facilitating a discussion. Discussion facilitators will also provide a quick report back to the group at large toward the end of the session. If similar proposals are submitted and accepted, facilitators may be asked to co-facilitate.
Those interested in participating as a discussion facilitator should submit a proposal that includes:
- The topic you wish to explore. Topics should relate to cataloging and/or metadata and its related aspects in academic, public, special, or school libraries. We particularly encourage and seek out diverse voices.
- An abstract that explains the topic
- Three sample discussion questions.
Interested participants should try to attend a 1-hour practice session to be scheduled sometime before the conference. Exact date and time to be determined.
Please submit your proposal to Susan Martin (susan.martin@mtsu.edu) and Alex Whelan (aw3195@columbia.edu) CNIG co-chairs by May 7, 2021.
