Groups - Core Buildings & Operations Section

Participating on a committee is a great way to develop new skills, learn from your peers, help advance the mission of Core, and accomplish concrete goals. We need your talents! The volunteer form is open year-round to help fill any vacancies. The appointment process starts in February and finishes in April so that new committee members can begin on July 1.

We encourage all members to apply. We need the talent and skill of dedicated library professionals like you.

Committees

  • ACRL/Core Interdivisional Academic Library Facilities Survey Editorial Board
    The ACRL/Core Interdivisional Academic Library Facilities Survey Editorial Board has oversight responsibility for ACRL’s annual Academic Library Facilities Survey including the development of an annual questionnaire on current facility demographics, facility repurposing projects, and anticipated building trends or issues. The Editorial Board also develops materials publicizing and encouraging participation by academic libraries in the annual ACRL Facilities Survey and continuously updates the "Academic Library Building Design: Resources for Planning" resource guide for planning library buildings and learning spaces.
  • Architecture for Public Libraries
    Disseminates knowledge, tools and best practices concerning library building planning and design through innovative programs, building tours, networking and social media.
  • Awards for Buildings and Interiors Committee
    Manages with the American Institute of Architects the annual ALA/AIA Library Building Awards and the International Interior Design Association the biannual ALA/IIDA Library Interior Design Awards.
  • Buildings for College and University Libraries
    Explores the evolving nature of the role of the library on college and university campuses and the resultant physical facility implications.
  • Library Interiors, Furnishings, and Equipment
    Studies and evaluates matters relating to library furniture and equipment for all types of libraries; makes recommendations as needed.
  • Planning and Design
    Research, maintain and communicate trends and best practices of space planning and design for libraries, including programming, visioning, design and post-occupancy evaluations.

Interest Groups

  • Library Facilities and Interiors
    Studies, evaluates, and recommends in matters relating to library furniture, equipment, and building planning for all types of libraries.
  • Library Storage
    Provides a forum for exchanging ideas on the planning, design, development, operation, management, and/or dismantling of library collection storage.
