Financial Impact of Annual Conference Cancellation

  • 1.  Financial Impact of Annual Conference Cancellation

Posting on behalf of Mary Ghikas:

Members have expressed concern about the impact of Annual Conference cancellation on ALA's operations and programs. While we know it will be substantial, we are in the very early stages of a long process.  There is no way to provide a reasonable projection at this point.

    • At point of cancellation, there were costs that had already been incurred.  There are also costs that will not have to be incurred or may be reduced.  Other costs may still be incurred in full.  We are working diligently to recover any costs we can.  We cannot yet definitely say what that figure will be.
    • We will file an insurance claim.  Our insurance underwriter has assigned an agent to us.  While we are relatively well-positioned to make a claim, this is not a quick process, nor is the outcome certain.
    • Staff are focusing their time on contract cancellation, renegotiation (where cancellation is not possible or desirable), and on documentation for the insurance claim.

As we progress through this process, we will do our best to keep you informed.  We thank you for your concern.
