National Voter Registration Day

  • 1.  National Voter Registration Day

    Posted 24 days ago

    Dear colleagues,

Today is National Voter Registration Day. As president of the American Library Association, I am inspired by the countless ways that libraries foster civic engagement in our communities and proud to be part of a profession that is dedicated to public service and democratic engagement.

Today is also Constitution Day, another civic holiday that calls on each of us to consider how we, individually and as a professional community, can help our nation move closer to the promise of a participatory democracy.

    Our work makes a difference.

That is why I am calling on everyone in the library community to get Reader Voter Ready today and:

    • Register to vote/confirm that you are registered.Let's show our communities what Reader Voter Ready looks like.

    • Use Reader Voter Ready resources at your libraryWhether promoting a program, announcing important election deadlines, or looking for information about what other libraries are doing, ALA offers resources and information to help.

    • Share your storiesI've been privileged to hear from colleagues across library types and around the country that are preparing current and future voters. This work is too important to keep to ourselves. Help us show others how integral libraries are to preparing voters for elections. Use the link provided or tag us on social media: #ReaderVoterReady.

Keep an eye on the Reader Voter Ready website and ALA social channels for more information in the coming weeks, when we'll share more voter engagement stories from libraries and celebrate National Voter Education Week.

The 2024 elections will be consequential for libraries and the communities we serve. Again, thank you for helping voters make their voices heard.

    Sincerely,

    Cindy Hohl
