  • 1.  Recommendations for project management software

    Posted Jan 08, 2019 08:41 PM
    Hi!

I am seeking recommendations on project management software for a group of academic librarians who work remotely and need the ability to create custom reports related to time spent on various projects. Caveat: Basecamp was not a good fit.

    Thanks!

We are using Airtable as a project management tool for several projects. You can try it for free here: Airtable: Organize anything you can imagine
To generate reports, you can use ReportBin - Generate HTML/PDF Reports From Airtable
You can design the reports using HTML. The downside is you do have to know HTML, though they have an offer to do that for a fee.

    Hi,

    New member here.

There are a number of good PM Software's available. Trello is another one that is just focused on the Kanban board and is browser agnostic.

    https://trello.com/en

One of the most beautiful (important for adoption) and functional is Asana.

    https://asana.com

Asana is for iOS and macOS only and requires a minimum buy-in of something like $30 a month (for up to a five-person team).

The calendar planning option is the game changer for Asana, and probably worth the money.

    Monday is another slick option.

    https://monday.com/

And it looks like they just added a Gantt chart option just recently.

    Cheers, happy to be here!

    Hi,

I'm sure you've already heard of this but Microsoft Project is an option. Unfortunately, it can be VERY cumbersome, expensive, and requires intense training in my opinion. I've been using it for years and I still struggle with some features and functions.

I've tried Monday.com and was quite impressed. I'd get a trial or demo of that product to see how it fits for your purposes.

    Hope this helps!

We have tried a whole bunch of them: a customized AirTable, Trello, Basecamp, Asana, and our own intranet (created on the Claromentis platform), and after much testing <g class="gr_ gr_114 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="114" data-gr-id="114">are</g> moving to Click Up. Here's what we like about it:
    • It's free and will remain free. Gantt charts do cost extra.
    • Tech support is amazingly responsive
    • The interface is clean, intuitive, flexible, and accommodates <g class="gr_ gr_572 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="572" data-gr-id="572">team</g>, work, and personal spaces
    • It doesn't sync with <g class="gr_ gr_474 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="474" data-gr-id="474">Outlook,</g> but will email you a daily list of tasks, and reminders of recurring tasks.
    • There is an app, too.
    • You can import from Trello, Basecamp, and others.

    Hello Valerie,

I've been using Kanban Flow for the last couple of years and find it quite useful. It's free and you can manage multiple projects and share your boards with team members.

Hey Val. We don't use anything here (as we are incredibly small), but my husband works for a really big gaming company and they use JIRA combined with sprint meetings for planning and they have had amazing success with it. If you find something you like let us know! We might want to incorporate something here in the future.

Also, there's Habitica which is free, but largely just for fun.
