  • 1.  Resolution on forming security/police presence guidelines?

    Posted Jun 03, 2020 05:13 PM
    Hi everybody,
I had a thought last night - do we have something that exists already that addresses the use of police in library buildings and general security policies? If not, should we develop one?

This came about after reading quite a few discussions on facebook (especially on Think Tank) that specifically express disappointment in ALA's weak-sounding statement about what's going on. The BCALA's statement is received better, but still. Shall we not put our money where our mouth is?

Also, I don't really have much expertise with this (also I'm white so recognizing my own privilege) and so I'd need help. Also, is it appropriate that I be introducing resolutions or suggesting them when it's not at all relevant with the members I represent? Black Lives Matter in this case isn't about gaming.

    Hi Gina,

I just want to address the question you end with:  yes, it is absolutely appropriate for you to introduce, suggest, discuss, vote on resolutions that go beyond what your round table typically engages in.  Same goes for all Councilors irrespective of whether at-large, chapter, RT, or division.

I hope you feel encouraged to explore your idea and even bring something to all of us for us to debate.

    Thanks!
    Peter

Hi, Gina.  I've had the same thought and have seen some discussion surrounding it, but I've only just started putting thoughts together.  Is your work email a good way to reach you currently?

Yes, we are open for curbside and my work email is accessible to me. I'm happy to help.
Peter - thanks! I appreciate your encouraging words and I miss seeing all of you face to face.
