LC announcement re: policy statements

  • 1.  LC announcement re: policy statements

    Posted Dec 18, 2020 12:39 PM

This announcement was released on the PCC listserv and the LC/ABA website (Cataloging and Acquisitions (Library of Congress) on December 18, 2020.

The beta RDA Toolkit is now the official version as of December 15, 2020. Please see this announcement (https://www.rdatoolkit.org/node/230) re: the impact on the URLs for the original Toolkit and official Toolkit.

As part of the preparation by LC/PCC for this transition, the LC/PCC RDA Policy Statement project team has completed writing over 7500 LC-PCC policy statements.  While these draft policy statements will be included in the new official RDA Toolkit, they are not final versions.  Every one of these policy statements must be reviewed, revised (if needed), and tested before being accepted as the final version.   For this reason, LC/PCC RDA Policy Statement project team, located at LC, will not accept or address any comments relating to the policy statements until after the first upgrade on April 5, 2021, following the launch of the RDA Toolkit.  At that time, the LC/PCC Policy Statements will be in their final form and the team will welcome comments.  An announcement will be released late March with instructions on how to submit comments.

In addition, these policy statements are just the starting point for the documentation work that is needed for this transition. As the policy statements undergo review, we will continue to work on the PCC application profile and also PCC RDA Metadata documentation (external documentation) that will function alongside the LC-PCC policy statements. Please see the announcement from PCC regarding the timeline that we are following (https://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/documents/PoCo-2020/newRDA%20ImpementationPlanNov2.pdf)
