This space is for all those interested in updates and discussion regarding Transforming ALA Governance. This space was originally created to share the work of the Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE) who was charged in June 2018 to carry out a comprehensive review and study of ALA’s governance, member participation and legal structures and systems, with the goal of proposing changes that will vitalize its success, strength and agility as a 21st century association. The results of this committee are the Forward Together recommendations.

    Dear Members,
The ALA Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE) along with ALA Executive Director Mary Ghikas, Past President Jim Neal, President Elect Wanda K. Brown, and Director of the Center for the Future of Libraries Miguel Figueroa met in Itasca, IL from Oct. 29-30 to participate in a Remodeling Summit led by Tecker International consultants Paul Meyer and Jim Meffert. The group participated in robust conversations about the future of libraries and the association, and over the next two months our consultants will refine our comments and ideas into potential models for how we might move our association into the 21st century. These potential models will be brought to Midwinter as discussion topics at special forums open to all interested participants as well as an online venue for those who cannot make it to Seattle. A complete schedule of opportunities to participate in the conversation will be forthcoming.

    All the best,
