Below is an outline of the most recent version of SCOE's Timeline. Since it is an iterative process, the timeline may continue to change based upon member feedback. The implementation of any approved recommendations may take years to complete and will be handled by a separate implementation team.

2018
JUNE
- Appointment of SCOE by ALA President Jim Neal
OCTOBER
- Remodeling Summit - First round of possible models created by SCOE based on feedback from members through past Kitchen Table Conversations, in person focus groups at 2018 ALA Midwinter and Annual, and phone interviews conducted by Tecker International Consultants.
2019
JANUARY
- Initial remodeling ideas presented to ALA Members at Midwinter through presentations and input sessions. PPT available.
FEBRUARY - MARCH
- Webinar outlining initial remodeling ideas for all interested members and parties. Recording available.
- Feedback gathering continues.
APRIL
MAY
- SCOE meets to incorporate feedback into creating one integrated model to be shared with members in June & July
JUNE
- 2-weeks prior to Annual, Draft final recommendation released to members for review
- ALA Remodel Recommendations Input Session with the Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE)
- Provide your input and feedback on creating the ALA of the 21st century in this session which will focus on the recommendations for the American Library Association created by the Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness. The session will focus on updates on the work of the committee and will go over the recommended model(s) in detail, asking for participant input and feedback. Those who cannot make in person sessions can participate virtually. More information on virtual participation will be shared.

JULY - AUGUST
- SCOE will gather feedback virtually through a webinar, date to be announced.
- A preliminary fiscal analysis of the recommended model will be done to determine its feasibility. If model is not fiscally responsible, it will not be moved forward.
- Conversations with State Chapters and Ethnic Affiliates on how to best work with ALA will occur.
SEPTEMBER
- SCOE meets to incorporate feedback into model.
OCTOBER
- SCOE will present its report to the ALA Executive Board. Depending on feedback and continued work, an action item may be proposed. Depending on the action(s) taken at the Fall Executive Board meeting, the implementation strategy will be outlined.
2020 and Beyond
JANUARY
- If approved by the ALA Executive Board, potential action is taken by ALA Council to proceed with SCOE's recommendations. At this point, an implementation team would take over the rest of the process which may occur over a series of months or years depending on the level of complexity and change.
