Discusses the basic issues relating to bibliographic control of maps and related materials. Discusses rules and standards covering such cataloging, as well as application of the rules and principles both in general and in response to specific problems, and various practicing options.
Did anyone else sign up for the forum? From what I gathered from the discussions, most places are in a "wait and see" mode. I kept some of the more interesting posts and if you'd like, I could try to summarize.
The first day was the more active of the two. Once the first day, we were asked what we were doing to learn about RDA and if people are making plans on what to do. Most are waiting for the results of the testing though a few are already experimenting with the rules. The second day focused on more technical areas and what the ILS vendors are doing. If your vendor isn't Innovative, Polaris, or a couple of others, you're not going to get much out of the second day's discussion. We've got Innovative and I learned a couple of things. Mostly, people are wondering what's going to happen and when will it happen.
Could you give us one or two take-aways? I signed up but haven't had the time to even lurk. Thanks, Louise
