  • 1.  First Amendment Audits

    Posted Sep 25, 2019 10:41 AM

The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) has been hearing more stories about "First Amendment Audits" in public libraries and needs to gather more information. The OIF staff are still working on crafting resources for librarians who have experienced these situations and those who want to be proactive in case an auditor visits their library.

To best capture all the details, use the "Challenge Reporting" online form. I've edited the form to include "First Amendment Audit" in the "Other" category. There is a list of possibilities that includes: student publications or performances, access to libraries or library cards, social media, artwork, and now --> "First Amendment Audit".

Please share this request with your professional colleagues. The more OIF knows about what is going on, the better OIF can tailor their support for libraries.
