ALA Council Forum II TONIGHT (Monday) 6 pm EST

  • 1.  ALA Council Forum II TONIGHT (Monday) 6 pm EST

    Posted Jun 22, 2020 08:33 AM

Good morning!  We had a successful Council Forum 1 Friday night!  Thanks to everyone that made it a success!  We had 88 in attendance!  Please find attached the Essence Notes from Council Forum 1 (Thank you, Rodney Lippard!) Also, a growing list of housekeeping guidelines.  Please feel free to send me other suggestions as we work through the process.

Tonight (Monday), we will be having Council Forum 2 via Zoom at 6 pm EST.  I will send a separate invite with the Zoom link with time zones.  This will be an hour and a half meeting due to the fact that things take longer virtually.  If you can't stay the entire 1.5 hours, that's fine!  Would love to see you for as long as you can be there.

I will be the Host Facilitator tonight and will have Toni Negro, Dora Ho, and Latrice Booker as my speaker coordinators and chat monitors.  If you wish to be put on the agenda to speak, please let me know in advance by sending me a quick email with the subject line: Council Forum 2 – Agenda Item.  For convenience, I have created a temporary Libguide to house the draft documents up for discussion to be used in Council Fora for a handy dandy place to access them quickly as we discuss.  This is a private link to be used just for reference in Council Forum. https://library.chattanoogastate.edu/CF2020

Here's what's on tap for tonight:

    • Resolution on Financial Autonomy – Jennifer Boettcher
    • COO Committee Report – Jim Neal
    • Resolution on Developing Library Security Policies - Tara Brady

    As a reminder:

Council, Council Fora (multiple of Forum) is an organic, informal gathering of Councilors and movers of resolutions. This is a safe environment where everyone may speak and where all voices will be heard.

Council Fora is an optional meeting for Councilors and is intended to provide information and advice on resolutions coming before the body.  This gathering allows for:

    • Councilors to ask questions about policies, procedures, or Robert's Rules of Order related to Council or ALA in general
    • Networking with Councilors
    • Resolution makers to get feedback from Council Colleagues on resolutions they will be bringing to Council for consideration
    • Councilors to get their questions answered regarding resolutions or issues that will be brought before Council for consideration.

    What Council Forum is NOT:

    • A replacement for debate on the Council Floor
    • A voting event
    • A place for formal debate
    • A place that will decide a vote
    • A substitute for Council decisions

Essence notes will be provided for those not in attendance.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
