  • 1.  What would happen if Council votes to change it's size and composition?

    Hello Council,

I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at today's meeting.  We plan to record it for those who are interested, but can't attend. Please be assured that the conversation is for discussion purposes only. The TAG Task Force is looking for Council's input as we created the action items for the June meeting.

Several Councilors have asked about the timeline regarding what would happen if Council votes in June to change the size and composition of Council.  If Council votes for changes in June, the proposed changes would then go to Membership for a vote. This would require a change to the Bylaws which is why it would then go to Membership for a vote.

There are other changes Council might make (for example, making Council an advisory body) which would require changes to the ALA Constitution. Any changes to the Constitution would require 2 votes by Council (at 2 consecutive meetings at least 2 months apart) and then a vote by by Membership.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Hi Amy,

This is extremely helpful reminder that the changes to the constitution and the bylaws will go to the membership for a vote.

    Thank you,

    Sara D.
