The Transforming ALA Governance task force is looking forward to continuing the discussions remaining from Council sessions at LibLearnX. In January, Council agreed to items regarding function and culture (ALA CD 35b Action 1 and Action 2). At the March 10th Council Meeting, Council will discuss and vote on ALA CD 35b Action 3 revised on organizational structure.
The original motion (ALA CD 35b Action 3) that was presented in January has been edited to indicate that Council voted in favor of remaining as one leadership body of knowledge rather than four leadership assemblies. Edits have also been made to timelines to clarify the next steps in the process.
As we continue to discuss the actions recommended by TAG, the action item we will be bringing forward is a revised document (ALA CD 35b Action 3 revised) for debate. This document is attached and can also be found on the ALA Council webpage. For comparison purposes, the original document as updated 1.19.22 during Council I is also attached.
While TAG welcomes any and all discussion regarding the action item, we expect much of the debate to center on the endorsement of Council as an advisory body. To that end, we are including a potential amendment replacing "advisory" by "policy making."I appreciate the time Council and has given to the TAG recommendations and motions to this point and look forward to continuing the discussion tomorrow!
