Hi Folks!
Just a brief note to say thank you again so much to everyone who provided input and feedback to this monumental effort to build the ALA for the future by engaging with the Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE).
The
participation
we've had has been stellar. Since beginning our iterative process in Fall 2018, we've held:
- 8 Face to Face Public Input Sessions,
- 7 Virtual Webinars,
- over 8 ALA Staff focus groups,
and have met with over 40 different groups across ALA including:
- Council,
- Divisions,
- Round Tables, and
- Committees.
In total, there have been over 65 different formal input and information sessions about ALA and Organizational Effectiveness reaching thousands of ALA members: new, longstanding, past, and prospective. Our thinking has evolved based on the input received and emerging consensus.
The engagement in this process exemplifies the future of our association and what we hope our final recommendations will do -- create engagement opportunities for all of our members while supporting a fiscally healthy association.
Next week we will meet to discuss our findings and refine our recommendations. We will continue this iterative process and look forward to sharing our findings and our refined recommendations with you all over the next few months, in order to present to the Executive Board this fall, and then, again, to present at Midwinter. For the full and current SCOE timeline including Council voting, please visit our space in ALA Connect.
Looking forward to sharing more with you all over the next few months!
Best,
Lessa
Charge: Appointed by then ALA President Jim Neal in June 2018, the Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness will carry out a comprehensive review and study of ALA's governance, member participation and legal structures and systems, with the goal of proposing changes that will vitalize its success, strength and agility as a 21st century association.
