As a seasoned ALA member but brand new first term Councilor, it was a bit jarring to learn and navigate the rules and regulations of conducting Council business and then reconcile that formality with some of the more casual, offhand comments.
To be honest, I was really caught off guard by a few of them, and had to ask Council colleagues what the norms were for Council business. I also understand that virtual Council business is a new arena, and we are all learning the best practices together.
Thank you to everyone who was accountable and to all who work to make this space welcoming, especially for the new folks (Rodney has been wonderful). I really appreciate it and look forward to learning from all of you and contributing as a Council member.
