    Is ALA Annual really in two weeks? Even though we can't be in person, we hope that you will join us for ALA Annual for wonderful sessions and opportunities to virtually connect with your peers. Read on to learn what programming the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS) has planned for ALA Annual.

    Jean E. Coleman Library Outreach Lecture

    The Jean E. Coleman lecture series honors Dr. Jean E. Coleman, the first director of the ALA Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (now the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services) for her leadership in focusing the association's attention on issues affecting traditionally underserved and underrepresented people in libraries.

     

    The invited lecturer for 2021 is Aaron LaFromboise. Aaron LaFromboise is currently the Director of Library Services at Medicine Spring Library, the academic library for Blackfeet Community College and the community library/archives for the Blackfeet Nation. Through her leadership, Medicine Spring Library received the 2018 Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums Institutional Excellence Award for creating a safe and enjoyable environment within the Blackfeet Tribal community. Aaron is a 2014 ALA Emerging Leader, sponsored by the American Indian Library Association, a former commissioner for the Montana State Library (2014-2020), serves on the ALA Presidential Committee for Julius Jefferson Jr., and is the American Indian Library Association Vice-President.

    Diversity and Outreach Fair

    Each year, the ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services invites library professionals from all kinds of institutions to submit proposals to participate in the ALA Diversity and Outreach Fair, which is held during ALA's Annual Conferences.

    The Fair highlights library services to underserved or underrepresented communities, including people with disabilities; people experiencing poverty and homelessness; people of color; English-language learners; gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people; new Americans; new and non-readers; older adults; people living in rural areas; and those who are justice-involved.
