Council,
The ALA Executive Board has forwarded to the Constitution and Bylaws Committee a request for Affiliate Status from Latino Literacy Now. In brief, it describes itself as a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 1997 “to promote literacy in the community in all forms: educational, financial, reading, and community awareness. We aspire to advance the cause of reading as a means of self-improvement both personally and professionally.” The attached documents offer additional information.
When it meets in Atlanta, the C&B Committee will review the documents Latino Literacy Now has submitted and will apply the criteria adopted by the Executive Board to determine whether or not to recommend that Council approve Latino Literacy Now's request.
Please review the attached documents before Council II. These will not be reproduced on paper as a part of the C&B report to Council.
