Emily R. Aguiló-Pérez is Assistant Professor of English (Children's Literature) at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Previously she served as faculty at Penn State for two years. She earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. Her teaching and research interests are in the areas of children’s literature (particularly Latinx literature), girlhood studies, and children’s cultures. She has presented research on Latinx children’s books at various conferences and has served on the Pura Belpré award committee and the Lee Bennett Hopkins Award for Poetry committee. She writes book reviews for Latinxs in KidLit.
One of her research interests is in the representation of Puerto Rican culture and identity in children's books and how child readers respond to these.
Currently she serves on the ALSC Library Service to Underserved Children and Their Caregivers committee.
