    • We write to pay tribute to the life and work of our friend and colleague John Donald Byrum, a leading figure in national and international cataloguing for many decades and a wise and valued mentor. His Washington Post obituary described him as a quiet and thoughtful man, and he was, but those of us who spent time with him in professional meetings and in private life knew him to be warm, witty, and convivial—the best of company and the best of friends.
    • The ALCTS Board of Directors has endorsed the “Core Competencies for Acquisitions Professionals" ourlining competencies that are needed across the span of an individual’s professional career to perform acquisitions functions. The intended audience for these competencies include students and new practitioners as well as managers and administrators who specialize or manage acquisitions functions in any library setting.
    • Today we are visiting with the ALCTS Creative Ideas in Technical Services (CITS) Interest Group, which can always be counted on for engaging discussion sessions at ALA conferences! Chair Whitney Buccicone and Vice-Chair Ryan Mendenhall talked with us about the group's current work.
