Hi everyone!
First, I want to welcome Jeffrey Mortimore (of Georgia Southern University) as our new Vice Chair/Chair Elect for 2019-2020.
Second, a small group of 12 people met for the College & Research Libraries IG meeting at ALA Annual 2019 in Washington D.C.. The meeting was set up to have small discussions groups around relevant topics. However, due to the small number of attendees, everyone joined one topic area focused on Open Access Management & Discovery.
The conversation started with harvesting institutional repository content into ILSs/discovery layers. Then, the conversation revolved around the many issues and problems with open access content: poor metadata, bad links, incorrect date thresholds, and uncertainty about foreign language collections. Attendees agreed that these issues were universal across ILSs and library types. However, there do not appear to be easy solutions to resolve the many problems. The conversation evolved to discussing OERs and open textbooks. A useful resource shared with the group is OASIS.

Next, the future of this IG is dependent on the decision to align ALCTS, LLAMA, and LITA (more information on this ALA Connect discussion board).
Lastly, the College & Research Libraries IG did not meet at ALA Midwinter 2019 and will not meet at Midwinter 2020. I hope to see you at ALA Annual 2020 (be sure to share your opinions for the 2020 session!).
