The ALCTS CaMMS Faceted Subject Access Interest Group (FSAIG) is trying something new for the 2019 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 4:00-5:00 pm
After an update on the FAST Project by OCLC, we are going to have roundtable discussions.
The interest group is charged with discussing the theory and applications related to subject terminology intended for faceted application, including FAST (faceted application of subject terminology), AAT (art and architecture thesaurus), LCGFT (Library of Congress genre/from terms), and others.
Roundtable discussions are small, informal group discussions intended to give participants the opportunity to network, discuss best practices, and share information. Table size for roundtable discussions is capped at 10 participants per table. Discussion facilitators are responsible for identifying and developing a topic, creating discussion questions, facilitating the discussion at their table, and reporting back to the larger group. If similar proposals are submitted and accepted, facilitators may be asked to co-facilitate.
Those interested in participating as a discussion facilitator should submit a proposal that includes:
- The topic you wish to explore. Topics should relate to the application of one or more faceted subject terminology or areas of interest to members..
- How the topic you wish to explore is relevant to FSAIG members.
- Three sample discussion questions.
If you are not interested in participating as a discussion facilitator, but have topics of interest, please submit those as well.
For more information about FSAIG, visit our page on the ALCTS website (http://www.ala.org/alcts/mgrps/camms/grps/ats-ccsigfsa) or our ALA Connect space.
We look forward to hearing from you!
