Charge: The Virtual Worlds Interest Group provides an opportunity for academic librarians with virtual environment interests and responsibilities to have a place in ACRL to network, share information, ask questions, and work on special projects, promote accessibility and provide programs relevant to academic libraries. The VW Interest Group also works to promote the various uses of virtual reality in all formats (desktop, mobile and headset) to potential and current academic librarians and to improve information literacy (metaliteracy) specifically in virtual spaces. The ACRL VWIG sponsors events, programs and meetings held mainly within the virtual world of Second Life and explores other developing Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality platforms in the evolving metaverse.

TITLE:  Archiving Virtual World Builds for Education

Presenter:  Hope Botterbusch  (Esperanza Freese in Second Life)
Description:  As the metaverse evolves, archiving 3D immersive experiences and educational builds is essential to document best practices for learning.  Much has been accomplished over the past 20 years in Second Life and many people are unaware of this rich history.  Come hear examples of the evolution of teaching and learning in SL as well as potential archival strategies.
Ms. Botterbusch earned a BS in Education from Millersville University and a MSLS from Wayne State University.
She also earned 59 post graduate hours in education, distance education, library & information sciences, and informal environmental science education.
During the span of her career, she was a school library media specialist, district library/media supervisor, college and university instructor, educational program coordinator and grant writer.
At the university level, she taught courses in new and emerging technologies in education for the University of South Florida, College of Education and Kansas State University, College of Education.
Her favorite position was at the University of South Florida, College of Marine Science where she worked with ocean scientists to develop educational programs for teacher training and assisted them with the educational components of their grant proposals.
She is a published author of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters for topics in copyright in education, and teaching & learning in virtual environments.
