Hi all,
Our provost has recently tasked us with programmatic assessment. We employed SAILS years ago, but have not, in recent years, had the budget.
For the past three years or so we have relied on locally created assessment *read Google Forms* and analysis of the data. No one in our small department (two of us) of instruction librarians has training or background in creating assessments or data analysis. While we have gained many skills in this endeavor, we have finally received the go-ahead to employ a programmatic assessment using a standardized test! Yay!
I understand that the use of standardized testing at any educational level is controversial but when you aren't quite sure that you are assessing what you want to assess and spend so much time and energy analyzing the data, standardized testing can be more efficient. Additionally, the provost is looking with a keen eye, so we need to get this done right.
We are hoping to pilot an assessment in the Spring of 2022 with a sample of first year students and upper level students.
If you have any experience with programmatic and standardized assessment, have an assessment tool that you love or hate, have stories of success (or failures!) I would love to hear them.
Thank you!
